I'll get right to the point.

We as a community need to seriously consider using more templates to make our lives much easier in the future. OriardKololz, and a few others have been helping out with a nice-looking Navbar template for items, such as the Template:MeleeWeaponsNavbox. It's a great start, but we'll need more. Currently, most item pages are using a basic table to display item information (example - top-right). However, best-case scenario would be to have several templates that can be used for almost everything in the game - items, vehicles, locations, etc. For those unfamiliar with templates, just know that it would allow us to be versatile with a game that is still in Alpha stages and thus changing rapidly.

Here's what I propose:

I will design any and all "infobox"-type templates that can be used throughout the wiki. I'll also document them so they're easy to use. This is where I need help from you guys:

  1. Once I'm done with the templates, I'll need help applying them to all of the items, vehicles, mobs, locations, etc. This will go a helluva lot faster with several people.
  2. This can be done right now - Due to the smart nature of the templates I'm building, it is imperative that each page using an infobox has two things that are perfectly correct, including capitalization and spacing:
    • The item name MUST match the page name - including capitalization and spacing (e.g. Golf Club, NOT Golfclub, and NOT Golf club)
    • The item's picture MUST match the page name - including capitalization and spacing (e.g. Golf Club.png, NOT Golfclub.png, and NOT Golf club.png)
      • Note: It's OK if the page URL address shows an underscore, like Golf_Club. That's normal. Just don't use the underscores yourself - use SPACEBAR!
      • I think the simplest way to ensure exact naming is to simply use the exact in-game name for the item (Pickaxe will need to become Pick)

This will make YOUR lives easier when you apply the templates, because within the template I'll be using terms like PAGENAME to display the infobox title and images. That magic word will automagically use the page's name to search for the associated image. In other words, if you place the template on the "Axe" page, the template will look for [[File:Axe.png]]. This is why I've been altering some of your images as I've been uploading the newer, cleaner-looking images that I extracted .

Once I'm done the first draft of the templates I'll post them here in this blog as a first draft. At that point we can go through them one-by-one and you're all more than welcome to give constructive criticism on what you think should be changed.

For the curious, here's an example of a basic Infobox Template.

Thanks!
